Private Residence: Apartment Interiors

2100, Lodha Bellezza,

Kukkatpally, Hyderabad

Built In: 2012 – 2013

Area: 3800 sq. ft.

The apartment design is based on the principles of simplicity and comfort, with a predominance of clean straight lines, large clear spaces that are further enhanced by immaculate white plastered walls in the background.

Being a doctor couple, our clients had a clear idea about what they were looking to achieve without demolishing or dissipating the original specs given by the builder, which included the flooring, toilet fixtures and finishes, and some electrical fixtures, air-conditioning and automation systems integrated.

One of the biggest challenges we faced while customizing the spaces was that the structure was primarily made of RCC walls which cannot be touched and very few walls were done in brick masonry. The dining area was originally an enclosed home theatre that was knocked off and opened up to be a part of the living space giving it a grand and open feel. The living space opens out to the deck spa in the balcony offering a magnificent city view from the 21st floor.

The off-white flooring in the living-dining spaces visually expands the area and gives it a seamless feel when combined with the white walls. The use of contemporary materials like glass, wood and steel lends the home a minimalistic, contemporary look imposing an air of elegance.

All four bedrooms have wooden flooring which renders an organic and warm touch to the whole space.

Art is a noteworthy aspect in the home décor. The private lift and the lobby wall depict a cement mural of ‘The Tree of Life’, Kalpavriksha. The mural has silver leaves depicting the presence of family members. In the living area, there is a Mural of Radha Krishna in Stone.

Our clients Mr. Kishore Lalwani and his wife, Mrs. Anamika Lalwani who is a jewelry designer had a clear idea about how their residence had to be done up and she wanted a very vibrant, sparkling feel just like the jewelry she designs. And we understood what was expected of us.

As per the brief, we were to utilize the original specs given by the builder, which included wooden flooring for the bedrooms, toilet fittings and fixtures and some electrical fixtures, air-conditioning systems and automation systems. As the walls were RCC, there was no scope for structural alterations on the 22nd floor. However, we design manipulated the brick walls to create a massive dressing area in the master bedroom.

As we step out of the private lift into the entrance vestibule, it is adorned by a Stone and MDF mural of Radha Krishna. On the left side is her private office area and on the right side is a guest bedroom which has been converted into a meditation hall and a pooja room. The most peaceful corner of the residence has beautiful, intricate jalli patterns done on the white marble mandir, shear curtains and false ceiling. The wooden floor rendered the warmth element.

The master bedroom lies in the southwest quadrant of the apartment and has a four poster bed with an intricate jalli in antique silver-finish with a black glass headboard. The wall color splash is added by the family photos ensemble on it.

Our client’s son’s room sported a sporty feel with a circular bed. The false ceiling and silver blinds reflects on the bed adding vibrancy.

We designed the home theatre area to double up as a library-cum-study area with an added sofa-cum-bed. The room also serves as our client’s design studio and relaxing her relaxing nook. It has sliding doors in glass which can be opened up completely to blend into the living dining area. The neutral color palette of the living and dining area is highlighted by use of colorful accessories and artwork on the walls.

The outdoor deck spa made way for a large sit-out area with a rustic theme. A wall done up in cut stone with scattered lighting on it and cane garden furniture completed the look.

The modular kitchen and toilets did not follow the original spec and were customized to suit client’s needs.

We based the apartment design on principles of simplicity and comfort. In other words, a “Back to Basics”, with pure lines predominance, thereby building exquisite spaces further enhanced by the immaculate white plastered walls in the background.

The living spaces were expanded by eliminated separations between rooms and functions, thus creating a sense of oneness and openness with areas flowing into one another. The use of contemporary materials like glass, wood and steel lent a minimalist and contemporary look to the home. This was further enhanced by a solid non-reflective floor done up in sandblasted, hand polished yellow Jaisalmer stone.

A Ganesh mural in stone outside the main door welcomes one into the modern and stylishly done up apartment. This actually covers a window opening into the gym area. A stone mural depicting a human form in a meditative posture dominates the formal drawing room, which is separated from the dining room by sliding glass partitions suspended from the top.

A wall in the kid’s room was painted orange to add life and color. The third bedroom has been converted into a gym. The bar is housed in the living room in the pooja room space. We placed the pooja room in the dressing space of the third bedroom. The modular kitchen design was complemented by the Indian blue Tandoor flooring that accentuates the white kitchen appeal created to suit modern needs and cooking habits.
